Reset NVRAM. Release the keys after you hear the startup sound again. Although you can change the startup disk from the System Preferences window in Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, there are times when you may need to change it from the Terminal. So, it is not too complicated to Mac boot from CD/DVD. This will start the OS X installer from the CD/DVD on your Mac. When the startup music is playing press and hold the C key from the keyboard.
